Coinbase In An Attempt To Seek ‘BUIDL’ Trademark

As per the Oct 2 filling with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the San Francisco–based tech unicorn expects “BUIDL” to catch up as one among the company’s protected brand names.

According to the USPTO website, the application is assigned to an examining attorney about three months after the filing date. Another company submits, “HODL,” which is much more popular crypto misspelling to the USPTO for trademark protection. Also another application from Flashratings, Inc. may have been suspended by the end of last month.

The Google trends data for the term “BUIDL” in the past 7 days appears quite interesting. As the search interest for the term was at the peak point on 7 Dec 2018. Having New York region at the top position and then California, Washington, Virginia and Massachusetts follow simultaneously.

Raalyqt tweets that Binance CEO, Chang Peng Zhao has been using the term. Although Coinbase has never tweeted using the term “BUIDL”.

Are you serious?! @cz_binance pretty sure you been using this term. I haven’t seen one coinbase tweet using BUIDL. Absolutely pathetic. https://t.co/mzaPG7JXDA

On which cz_binance replies that he believes in real building and not filing patents. Also, claims he isn’t the first person to use misspelled word “BUIDL”.

lol, that's hilarious. We focus on real building, not filing. I think I saw HODL somewhere first. I may or may not be the first one to use the BUIDL term. Can't remember, and not that important. … But if they fk around with #SAFU, I will be pissed! https://t.co/uAkZyYT7HC

He again recursively tweets “pissed” = lawyers ready to go. Also, shares his point of view that filing one such term that various communities have widely used may create a negative impression about one’s reputation.

recursive tweet again. "pissed" = lawyers ready to go.

I also think filing for a term like #BUIDL, that's already used widely in the community, hurts one's reputation than it helps. Honest advice. https://t.co/aFLaT3q8Xh
